About Overcast

Overcast is a story I have had floating around in my head for years now, something to keep my mind occupied and scratch creative itches..

It tells the story of the last group of humans on earth, returning from a failed interstellar colonialization expedition that lead them back home to an Earth completely transformed by the passage of time and with the rest of the human population nowhere to be found.. The group of amnesiac humans begin to make planetfall, sacrificing their massive starship, casting pieces of it down from orbit down to the shores to build a new kind of ship, one to travel the seas and be their new home as nomads on an unfamiliar Earth..

Two centuries after planetfall, the group of humans have settled into a routine, and thrive aboard the boat, named Daichopur, made out of the same steel that carried them across the stars all those years ago. Their archaic ways, formed from the experience of barely scraping by in such a harsh world, contrast with the advanced technology which powers their machines.. a mix of old and new, and a humble group attempting to find their place in what could be the twilight years of humanity, or the beginning of a brand new age.. parsing the words of wisdom and warning left by the humans..

Nooleiah is a young airplane jockey aboard Daichopur struggling to understand the world she has found herself in, from her place among her peers to the mystery of ancient humanity and their sudden disappearance..

This is both a worldbuilding project, exploring what an Earth long abandoned by humans might be like, as much as it is an attempt to portray humans honestly and believably, highlighting how we carry ourselves, our ugliness and flaws, as well as our strength and calm, when entering into a world that feels it is ending..
